Why Grass-Fed?

“There is a growing disconnect between farmers and consumers. Entering a market where I can help bridge that divide is important to me.”

Many people living in the United States no longer have a direct connection with the farm and do not know where their food comes from.  As a farmer, Joel welcomes dialogue about his farming practices and how his animals are raised.  Raising grass-fed beef gives Joel and consumers the certainty that his animals are a high quality product.

An animal’s diet can have a profound influence on the nutrient content of its products.  While both grain-fed and grass-fed beef are safe and important sources of protein in the diet, there are a number of benefits when consuming grass-fed beef.

Health benefits to consuming grass-fed beef include:

  • Less total fat and calories.
  • More heart-healthy, omega-3 fatty acids.
  • More conjugated linoleic acid, which is a type of fat that can reduce heart diseases and cancer risks.
  • More rich antioxidant vitamins, such as Vitamin C and E.

Other Benefits to consuming and purchasing grass-fed beef directly from a farmer:

  • Sustain rural communities.
  • Improve the welfare of animals.
  • Work to end environmental degradation.
  • Help small scale farmers make a living.
